How to Find Your Perfect Home During the Holidays

Our regular lives seemed to hit a pause button from Thanksgiving Day to New Year’s Day. During the hustle and bustle of those five weeks, you might wonder if it is even possible to search for your perfect home or put it off until January 2nd.

However, it is possible to find your next home, even during the happiest (busiest) time of the year. These four tips will help you navigate the challenges of finding the perfect home for you this holiday season.

1. Forget the conventional wisdom.

You’ve probably heard everyone says the weather and short days, holiday parties and recitals keep away both buyers and sellers. In reality, houses on the market this time of year tend to have more pressure to sell quickly. And you might land yourself a great deal.

2. Be prepared for waiting and negotiating.

With fewer houses on the market you might have to wait between showings, but there will be fewer people competing to see a home. And when you find the best home for you and your family and you go to put an offer in, with less competition, your realtor will have more room to negotiate with the seller’s.

3. Prepare ahead of time.

If you plan to house hunt during the holiday season, be sure to communicate with your realtor in advance to coordinate any planned time off, so you aren’t left feeling frustrated. Also, it is always wise, especially if you want to move quickly and buy a home before the end of the year, get preapproved for a home loan.

4. Taxes.

Taxes are one of those sure things in life, right? Well, it goes both ways. If you purchase and close on your home even with just one day left in the year, you will have a tax benefit, especially if your state has a homeowner’s tax exemption.

Whether you want a good deal or need to find a new home quickly, don’t let home buying intimidate you during the holiday season. If you are looking for a house this holiday season, look at these beautiful listings.
